The Average Weight column, as it appears on the Position Performance and Performance Attribution reports, is calculated in this way:
Average Weight also takes the following into consideration:
The sum of all average weights included on the Position Performance report will equal 100%.
Days where the account has an ending value of $0 are dropped from the average.
A position that is held for fewer days than the total amount of time included on the report will be averaged for the entire period, not just the days it was held.
Average weight can be used in conjunction with the Contribution column to compare how much a position contributed to the overall portfolio with how much of the portfolio is made up of that security.
